A typical autism assessment involves an independent consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist (general psychiatric assessment) and a clinical psychologist (structured assessments). The clinicians work together as independent colleagues to reach a shared diagnostic formulation; each is responsible for their own contribution to the assessment.
