About Dr Joanne Cheung

Co-Founder of Mindsake, Senior Clinical Psychologist

Dr Joanne Cheung is a HCPC-registered Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist offering therapy and psychological assessment across the lifespan, working with children, adolescents, and adults. She brings particular expertise in supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, low mood, emotional dysregulation, identity-related stress, trauma, and major life transitions.

With a warm, thoughtful and collaborative approach, Joanne is especially experienced in helping neurodivergent individuals with associated mental health problems and behavioural disturbances, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD. Most importantly, her clinical work is underpinned by evidence-based psychological practice, with advanced expertise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Joanne aims to provide a safe and supportive space where clients can explore emotional experiences, develop insight, and work toward meaningful and sustainable change.

  • Trauma and life transitions
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD
  • Identity-related stress and challenges
  • Behavioural and adjustment difficulties

She has particular expertise in working with individuals who may feel misunderstood, overwhelmed, or who have spent many years masking, over-adapting or minimising themselves to meet others’ expectations.

Clinical Experience

Joanne has trained and worked in several London's s leading mental health services, including:

  • South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM)
  • Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, Kings College London (IoPPN)
  • Specialist trauma service
  • CAMHS Tier 3 and Neurodevelopmental Service
  • St George's University Hospital

Joanne currently works within an NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) as a supervisor and service development lead, contributing to the development of early intervention pathways that enable children and young people to access support at the earliest stages of mental health difficulty.

Alongside her NHS role, she maintains a private practice at 85 Wimpole Street, supporting a diverse range of young people and adults seeking thoughtful, high-quality psychological care.

Beyond the Therapy Room

Joanne’s values are shaped by her international background. Originally from Hong Kong and raised in Malaysia, she has spent over a decade living and working in the United Kingdom. This global perspective underpins her commitment to culturally responsive care and a nuanced understanding of each individual’s unique lived experience.

Outside of her clinical work, Joanne enjoys staying active and is currently working towards beating a 5km personal best of 21 minutes—set by one of her clients (although this is taking longer than she had hoped!). When not running, she can often be found searching for the best burger in London.
