About Professor Patrick Bolton

Co-founder of Mindsake

Professor Patrick Bolton is a leading authority in child and adolescent psychiatry, with over 40 years of clinical and academic experience. Formerly Professor of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at King’s College London and Honorary Consultant at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, he has played a pivotal role in advancing understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders, including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.


Patrick has authored over 300 scientific publications and is internationally recognised for his contributions to research into the genetic and neurobiological basis of childhood conditions. His work has been supported by leading organisations including the Medical Research Council, Wellcome Trust, and Autism Speaks.


As Co-Founder of Mindsake, Patrick helps shape the platform’s clinical vision and standards, supporting access to high-quality, evidence-based care through a trusted network of independent clinicians.


Qualifications & Training


Patrick holds degrees in both Psychology and Medicine from the University of London, and earned his PhD focusing on the genetics of Autism Spectrum Disorders from Trinity College, Cambridge University. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. His clinical training was completed at Guy’s & St Thomas’ and St George’s Medical Schools, along with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London and the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust.

  • Former Lead of the Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAAND)
  • Lecturer and Honorary Consultant, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (KCL) 
  • Senior Lecturer, University of Cambridge 


He has been recognised at the highest levels for his service, receiving both an NHS Platinum Merit Award and an NIHR Senior Investigator Award.


Research & Contributions


Patrick has authored over 300 scientific publications and is recognised as a world leading authority on the causes (genetics and brain basis) of childhood neurodevelopment disorders (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder).  His research has focused on identifying the causes of  ADHD, ASD and related disorders of social function and communication. His research has also been supported by awards from the MRC, Wellcome Trust, Action Medical Researcher, Autism Speaks, Tuberous Sclerosis Association and other medical research charities. 


Beyond Work


Beyond work, Patrick likes to cook and travel and is currently trying to learn Italian.
