Pharmacological Treatments

Psychiatric Assessment & Medication Review

Before prescribing medication, the Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine whether medication is an appropriate treatment option. This includes a full review of medical history, symptoms, and previous treatments.

Medication Initiation & Titration

If medication is recommended, independent clinicians provide clear information, careful guidance on starting treatment. They take a personalised approach to find the right medication and initial dosage, based on each individual’s needs.

Ongoing Medication Monitoring

Regular follow-ups are essential for assessing the effectiveness of medication and making any necessary adjustments. Clinicians work closely with young people and their families to ensure the best possible outcomes and minimise side effects.

Collaborative Care & Multidisciplinary Support

Medication management is integrated with other therapeutic approaches where needed. Clinicians collaborate with therapists, schools, and other professionals to provide holistic, well-rounded care tailored to each child’s needs. At the GP's discretion, prescribing responsibility for your child can be arranged via shared-care agreement.
