About Monika Markowska

Specialist Cognitive Behavioural Therapist

Specialist in Neurodivergence, Trauma & Relational Work

Monika Markowska is an Advanced BABCP accredited therapist who believes that the best work happens when you feel truly seen and understood—not as a "patient," but as a person. Known for her warm, down-to-earth, and compassionate style, Monika works with adults, young people, couples and families to navigate the complexities of mental health and neurodivergence.

A Human Approach to Therapy

If you’ve ever felt intimidated by the idea of "clinical" therapy, Monika’s approach is designed to change that. She is widely recognised for her sense of humour and relatable nature, bringing a necessary lightness to the therapy room. She believes that while the work can be deep and life-changing, it doesn't have to feel heavy all the time. By using humour and genuine connection, she creates a space where you can explore your challenges at your own pace without feeling judged.

Qualifications and Training

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Couples Therapy – The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust
  • Advanced BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist -Royal Holloway University London
  • EMDR Accredited Therapist - EMDR Academy
  • BSC in Psychology (UK)
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy (Poland)

Clinical Expertise: Helping You Thrive

With over 13 years of experience across the NHS and private practice, Monika has extensive experience in supporting individuals with a wide range of difficulties. Her specialisms include:

  • Anxiety & Mood: Expert support for OCD, Health Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Body Dysmorphia, Depression, Low Self-Esteem and Personality Disorders.

  • Trauma & PTSD: Using specialised approaches like EMDR to process difficult memories so they no longer hold power over your present.

  • Neurodivergence: Supporting those with Autism and ADHD to thrive in the world around them and in their personal lives. Her commitment to neuro-affirmative practice began in Poland, where she helped develop the 'Older Brother, Older Sister' program. This initiative was rooted in the belief that neurodivergence, like ADHD and Autism, should be something to speak about with pride , focusing on unique strengths rather than just deficits.

  • Couples & Relational Therapy: A specialist interest in helping couples improve communication and rebuild connections. She is trained in both Psychodynamic Couples Therapy and CBT for Couples (CBCT), allowing her to adapt her approach to the unique needs of each relationship.

  • Long-Term Physical Health and Inner Balance: Monika is also interested in supporting those living with chronic illness. Her experience includes working with cancer patients through UCLA Hospital programme using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She helps clients regain their inner balance and discover their true selves, integrating ACT with meditation and relaxation techniques to foster resilience in the face of life’s most difficult challenges.

Empowering Your Potential

Monika has a passion for working with young people navigating the transition into adulthood, as well as adults who feel stuck or held back by past traumas.

She recognises that we are often subconsciously guided by societal pressures and the expectations of others, which can lead to low self-esteem and prevent us from realising our own true values and needs. Monika works closely with her clients to peel back these layers, helping them discover life directions that truly resonate with who they are.

Beyond the Therapy Room

Monika’s creativity extends far beyond her clinical work. She is a dedicated sculptor, finding that the process of shaping clay mirrors the patience and care required in therapy. She also plays the saxophone , enjoys drawing , and is, by her own admission, completely obsessed with her pug, Maurice .
